Outdoor Training For Abbey Stadium
Managed by Indigo Fitness, the aim of this project was to improve and expand the leisure services that Abbey Stadium already had to offer. The brief was to create an outdoor training space that could be used for multiple training types, with the option to have multiple classes running at a time. Most importantly, the outdoor facility needed to allow for training outside 365 days a year.
Indigo Fitness partnered with McGregor Structures to form the covered training space, specifying a standard Shield Canopy to combine shipping containers. While the canopy would create year-round protection from the weather the shipping containers would provide storage for additional equipment. Basing the design around two 20ft shipping containers, Indigo Fitness worked with the McGregor team to implement a 10-metre-wide Shield Canopy to create the 10 x 6m CrossFit and functional training area.
The containers would not only provide storage for the gym equipment but also divide the space into two distinct areas that can either be used simultaneously for separate classes or at one time for a larger class. By fitting lighting to the steel framework inside the canopy roof allowed training to continue long into the night.
The containers feature a roller shutter door running their full length allows easy access to the custom design storage units, holding all the gym equipment for the CrossFit area. In the central space beneath the container canopy is a freestanding functional training rig, with 6 lifting stations, multiple muscle up and suspensions training points, dual height throw targets, two 4m high rope climb sections. This all sits on top of our 32mm Duratrain impact flooring which is just at home outside as it is inside.
