OPUS™ Advances Waste Transfer Site

Covering waste bays reduces labour and transport costs and is essential in adherence with Environmental Agency regulations.

We worked with PJ Skips, a commercial and domestic waste disposal business, to supply Opus™, the latest building from McGregor Structures. Opus is an advanced structure that covers waste bays and integrates with precast concrete blocks.

Working closely with Operations Director Harriet Hamer, the McGregor team took responsibility for installation and ensuring completion on time, on brief and on budget.

Driven by the common on-site challenges experienced in waste processing, PJ Skips needed a solution for storing plasterboard.

Resources were being wasted, time was lost manually covering and recovering materials in adherence with Environmental Agency regulations, this was impractical, adding cost, and creating unnecessary health & safety risks for workers. With the aim of modernising production and reducing environmental impact PJ Skips needed a canopy that would span between concrete block bays where loose materials could be contained and protected from external conditions.

Having worked with McGregor Structures on a previous canopy, Harriet made contact to see if there was a product that fulfilled her brief. The timing was perfect, having recently launched the Opus structure to the waste management, recycling and aggregates markets.

Opus was the perfect fit, a canopy designed specifically for covering waste bays, spanning precast concrete blocks. Aligning with the standard waste management site setup, Opus integrates with precast interlocking Legato blocks to form a dependable structure for this demanding high traffic environment.

The standard building unit was packed and dispatched from the McGregor factory in Hampshire and met on site by our dedicated construction team.

Installed in 2 days, the result for PJ Skips was an immediate reduction in labour, and cost savings from the reduction of material weight (for onward transport) from reduced water content in the processed material.

Opus has maximised space on site, transforming operations. The on-site team has more time to devote to producing high-quality aggregates from the incoming waste, conditions have improved and environmental targets are more easily achieved.

Harriet continues investing in her long-term plan to modernise production and reduce environmental impact at PJ Skips, the Opus will be central to this success.
