Shield Canopy™ partnering with BeaverFit to make outdoor gyms possible

As part of our ongoing partnership with BeaverFit, McGregor deployed the Shield Canopy to create a cover for an outdoor gym at Shrewsbury Town’s football stadium. BeaverFit, specialise in training equipment and work with their clients to supply, manage and update existing facilities. The Shield Canopy will be used for fitness classes and bootcamps.

BeaverfFit are well positioned to respond to the increased popularity of outdoor exercise activities such as CrossFit and BMF (Be Military Fit).

Formed when founder Tom Beaver created the training equipment for himself when preparing for the Arch 2 Arc challenge (a run to the Channel, swim the Channel and then cycle to Paris).

When his contacts at the British Army saw his equipment it sparked the idea of a container gym – this led to the commissioning of temporary gym areas for army personnel at the 2012 Olympics. The Olympics project gave them worldwide exposure, the rest is history.

On this project, we worked with Bruce Duncan, the Lead Project Manager on Human Performance at BeaverFit. Bruce explains that their starting ambition to: focus on the outdoors when no one else did, and to find the best solution for their early users (soldiers), has put them in a fantastic position for supplying the commercial leisure industry – BeaverFit is evolving to gain contracts with prevalent gym brands such as David Lloyd. Bruce is positive that the outdoor fitness trend in leisure will stay and grow.

Since COVID-19, gym-goers’ experience and preferences have changed. Now, people realise, they still want to exercise, but do they want to go to a sweaty gym? Probably not. Outdoor fitness classes, under shelter, give the benefit of the fresh air as well as gaining that outdoor bootcamp experience. BeaverFit, along with McGregor, provide that experience to customers in the UK and beyond.
